iPhone FAQ : Switching Carriers
- If I switch from another carrier, can I retain my old phone number?
- Yes. The activation process (done in iTunes) enables you to "port" your existing phone number to AT&T. There is no fee for this. (Most carriers already include a "portability costs recovery" fee in their monthly bills. This fee is authorized by the FCC but the rate varies by carrier. This fee is not optional for customers.)
- If I am under contract, will AT&T buy out my existing contract or reimburse me for cancellation fees?
- No.
- I was an AT&T Wireless customer before it was bought by Cingular and subsequently turned into AT&T again. Will I be charged "transfer fees"?
