iPhone FAQ : Special iPhone Plan

Does it require a special phone plan?
Yes. There are two options.

New or existing AT&T customers can subscribe to a special iPhone plan, which is available in individual and family (multiline) versions. Individual plans start at $59.99 per month with 450 voice minutes, unlimited data, 200 SMS text messages, and 5000 nights & weekends minutes. There is a one-time activation fee of $36. Family plans start at $80 for one line with 700 shared minutes, and additional iPhone lines are $29.99 each. All plans include unlimited calling to other AT&T mobile phones, and RolloverĀ® Minutes.

Existing AT&T customers can add iPhone service to their existing plan for $20 per month per iPhone line.

Some bloggers have found ways to sign up for pre-paid or monthly plans by tricking iTunes' activation process into thinking their credit is too poor for a standard plan. (These plans appear to cost about $86/month.)

The following table summarizes the basic rate plans; visit Apple's web site for plans with additional voice time.
